Past Simple
(простое прошедшее время)
- одно из самых распространенных времен в английском языке. С помощью Past Simple
мы можем передать события, происходившие в прошлом, а в некоторых случаях и события в настоящем. Поэтому на любом уровне владения английским языком вы узнаете что-то новое о Past Simple
.
Как образуется Past Simple
Утверждение
Для того чтобы образовать Past Simple
, мы добавляем к глаголу окончание -ed
, если глагол правильный (work
- worked
, learn
- learned
, ask
- asked
). Если глагол неправильный, то мы ищем форму для Past Simple
во второй колонке таблицы неправильных глаголов
. Скорее всего, на первых порах вам будет трудно сразу определить, какой перед вами глагол. Неправильный глагол вы найдете в таблице. Если же его там нет, он правильный.
Отрицание
В отрицательном предложении в Past Simple
появляется вспомогательный глагол did
(вторая форма неправильного глагола do
) и частица not
. В английском предложении только один глагол может быть в прошедшем времени, поэтому, как только появляется did
, основной глагол принимает форму инфинитива без частички to
(go
, look
, feel
).
В разговорной речи did
и not
объединяются, образуя сокращенную форму didn’t
:
- He didn’t tell .
- We didn’t discuss .
Чтобы задать вопрос в Past Simple , мы ставим на первое место did , после него подлежащее, потом основной глагол. Глагол to be в Past Simple
Как вы уже знаете, to be - это неправильный глагол, поэтому форму прошедшего времени надо запомнить. Но в прошедшем времени у него не одна форма, как у всех остальных глаголов, а две: was (для существительных и местоимений в единственном числе) и were (для существительных и местоимений во множественном числе). В отрицании was (were ) объединяется с not и образует сокращенную форму:
- I wasn’t at work .
- They weren’t happy .
Сразу обратим внимание на то, что основные функции Past Simple и Present Simple совпадают. Нам необходимо только перенести действие из настоящего времени в прошлое.
- Past Simple показывает факт в прошлом или единичное действие, которое закончилось в прошлом.
I saw him yesterday . - Я видел его вчера . (единичное действие в прошлом, вчера уже закончилось)
The Titanic sank in 1912 . - Титаник затонул в 1912 году . (факт)
He went to Italy last month . - Он ездил в Италию в прошлом месяце . (единичное действие в прошлом)
Слова, указывающие на время действия, могут не использоваться в этой функции.
She spoke to him in a low voice. - Она тихо говорила с ним. (единичное действие в прошлом)
Aivazovsky painted “the Ninth Wave”. - Айвазовский написал картину «Девятый вал». (факт)
- Также Past Simple используется для того, чтобы описать состояние в прошлом.
That museum had a great collection of paintings. - В том музее была огромная коллекция картин. (сейчас в музее нет огромной коллекции)
- Мы употребляем Past Simple , чтобы рассказать о старых привычках и повторяющихся действиях. Эти действия неоднократно происходили в прошлом, но сейчас уже не совершаются. В таких предложениях могут стоять наречия often (часто), sometimes (иногда), always (всегда) и т. д.
He always bought newspapers on Sunday. - Он всегда покупал газеты по воскресеньям. (сейчас он не делает этого)
- Мы также можем использовать конструкцию used to, если говорим о старых привычках.
- Мы используем Past Simple , когда рассказываем историю или перечисляем несколько событий, которые происходили одно за другим в прошлом.
He entered the café, he ordered a cup of tea and a piece of cake. - Он вошел в кафе, заказал чашку чая и кусок пирога.
Где еще встречается Past Simple?
- Мы используем Past Simple , чтобы рассказать детали какой-то новости или какого-то события, произошедшего в нашей жизни. Саму новость мы сообщаем во времени Present Perfect . Мы можем использовать и другие прошедшие времена, чтобы рассказать детали, но Past Simple употребляется в этих случаях чаще других.
I’ve got this job. It was a hard and exhausting interview, but it turned out that I was a perfect applicant. - Я получил эту работу. Это было тяжелое, изнуряющее собеседование, но оказалось , что я идеальный кандидат.
- Past Simple употребляется в придаточных времени после союзов after (после того как), before (до того как), when (когда), until (пока не), as soon as (как только). В таком предложении Past Simple показывает законченное действие в прошлом.
